Back in 2012, the release of Kid Icarus: Uprising gave Nintendo’s decades-old franchise a fantastic new chance to shine. The game transformed the series into a third-person shooter and was directed by none other than Super Smash Bros. series director, Masahiro Sakurai.
Today, 22nd March, just so happens to be Uprising’s ninth anniversary, and Sakurai has taken to social media to celebrate the date with a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshot. In the tweet below, he acknowledges the fact that he and his team have received numerous requests for a sequel from fans, but that making such a title would be “difficult”.
2012年のきょう『新・光神話パルテナの鏡』(Kid Icarus: Uprising)発売!!
続編やリメイクを望む声を多くいただいているのですが、難しいでしょうねー…

It seems that fans of the series probably shouldn’t be getting their hopes up for a new game in the series any time soon, then. According to trusted translator, PushDustIn, Sakurai’s use of ‘difficult’ suggests that such a project is unlikely to happen, rather than being possible but challenging to complete.
Sakurai is saying he’s heard a lot of requests for a sequel or a remake but it’d be “difficult.”
Basically means it’s not going to happen any time soon. https://t.co/JJAbzLexe8

In Japanese something being difficult usually means, “no or very unlikely to happen”— PushDustIn (@PushDustIn) March 22, 2021
