Embracer Group, parent company of publisher THQ Nordic, today released its Interim Report Q1 2021 [PDF]. Within the report, the holding company revealed that open-world action RPG Biomutant has sold more than 1 million units since its release on May 25.
Embracer notes that the costs of development & marketing, as well as the costs of acquiring developer Experiment 101 & the IP, were all recouped within a week of launch. As a whole, Embracer’s sales and earnings are all up on the quarter when compared to last year.
Biomutant received mixed reviews overall, including our own 6/10 review, but that didn’t prevent the game from being a financial success for the company.
As a final note for Embracer’s Q1 report: though it was not released in Q1, Gearbox Publishing’s co-operative action RPG Tribes of Midgard is also stated to have sold 250,000 units within three days of its launch on July 27.
