CD Projekt Red has released some new information on the upcoming Patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077. While there’s still no release date, it has confirmed that certain requested elements will be changed in the update – one of the main aspects being police behaviour.
Up until now, players have complained at how the police AI acts, with reports of units spawning out of nowhere and Bloomberg reporter, Jason Schreier, claiming the reason it was so janky was due to it being added in at the last minute. In a pretty incomprehensible update from the company, that we wouldn’t recommend the headache of trying to decipher, it has been confirmed the AI is getting updated.
Going forward, the police will no longer spawn out of nowhere and gun you down, and instead give players a chance to react to the situation. The change is to give players some “breathing room”, which was lacking before. The short video gives a brief look at how its changed, and to be honest, it does seem a massive improvement from what we’ve previously seen.
“This is an important step in addressing the behavior of the police in our game. It should decrease the problem of NPCs spawning behind players’ backs and create an impression that it takes some time for the police to arrive at the crime scene after the crime has been reported. We’ve also added a recon “drone” unit to create the feeling of the police assessing the situation.”
Another change is related to the car handling in the game, which has also been a majorly criticised component. A steering sensitivity slider is being added to give players more control on their vehicles, and for those who have been getting their car stuck in the environment in Night City, “you can now rock the vehicle forward or back, or rotate it left/right” to get it unstuck.
There’s no word on when this update will be made public. It was originally intended to be dropped by the end of February, but was later pushed back to the end of March following a cyber attack on CD Projekt Red halting its development. With less than two weeks to go in the month, we can’t imagine it will be much longer until we hear something new.
