PS4 Slim is the sole survivor
Following rumours over the past couple of days, Sony has now confirmed its production of PlayStation 4 systems for the Japanese market has all but ceased. The Japanese giant will now manufacturer and sell just the 500GB PS4 Slim model in a Jet Black colour for the region, meaning the likes of the PS4 Pro and other base versions will soon no longer be available to Japanese consumers. It is said that Sony will now utilise the production lines freed up by these cutbacks to flood the market with PlayStation 5 systems instead.
The hardware manufacturer always spoke of wanting to quickly transition its PS4 userbase onto the new machine, and this looks set to be another step towards making that happen as the PS5 becomes more widely available in the coming months. As store shelves become packed to the rafters with the latest technology, the Japanese market may not even spare a passing glance at the now outdated PS4. Pretty much all of its games can play on the PS5 anyway.
