As promised, Microsoft has enhanced some of Bethesda’s backwards compatible games for Xbox Series X/S – and from today, Dishonored: Definite Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Prey, and Skyrim Special Edition have all received an FPS Boost.
In case you need a recap on the feature, it employs a variety of methods for nearly doubling the original framerate on select titles, leveraging the power of the Xbox Series S/X in order to make even older games look smoother and play better.
As teased last week, to celebrate the acquisition of Bethesda, Microsoft has improved a series of ‘significant’ Bethesda titles on modern consoles with an FPS improvement – and there are apparently more to come.
“We’ll announce more titles that support FPS Boost in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for updates,” says Microsoft in a press release.
“Gamers can expect to see an increase from 30fps to nearly 60fps with FPS Boost for the above titles,” the press release continues.
“To experience FPS Boost, make sure your console has the latest update installed and the FPS Boost function is turned on in ‘Compatibility Options’ under the ‘Manage Game’ section.”
But bear in mind a higher framerate may mean a graphical downgrade in some situations. “In some instances, because there are higher graphics requirements to enable FPS Boost technology, we’ve had to reduce a game’s resolution to ensure it both runs smoothly and plays great.
“In those select cases, such as Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 in this latest title announcement, FPS Boost is not automatically enabled for Xbox Series X gamers.”
If you want to play more Bethesda games on Xbox platforms, you’ll be pleased to note that there are 20 titles available via the service.
And 16 titles are now available everywhere you play whether it’s PC, console, or mobile devices through the cloud for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members.
